![]() State Submits TIFIA Loan Application May 15, 2004 Louisiana highway officials have applied for over $50 million in loans for the LA 1 Highway Improvement Project as part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) program. Through TIFIA, the U.S. DOT may provide a total of $2 billion in credit assistance to surface transportation projects of national or regional significance. For the LA 1 project, the goal is to use the TIFIA funds as leverage to attract $100 million in private investments for critical improvements to the highway. With an approved TIFIA loan and private investments, construction of a new fixed-level bridge and a portion of the elevated highway system from Golden Meadow to Fourchon could be completed by 2008. A decision on the LA 1 loan request is expected sometime this year.
