Pre-Construction Work Continues
May 15, 2004

DOTD officials and the Wilbur Smith and Associates team are proceeding on schedule with the $16 million pre-construction phase for the LA 1 improvement project.

  • Crews have begun an advanced test-piling program along the new highway corridor north and south of Leeville.
  • Corps of Engineers and Louisiana DNR coastal use permit applications have been submitted for construction of phases 1A (Southern Section) and 1B (Leeville Section) of the new highway, which includes a fixed level bridge over Bayou Lafourche adjacent to the existing lift bridge, interchanges north and south of the bridge, and an elevated highway from Leeville to Fourchon.
  • Surveying, engineering, design and right-of-way acquisition is ongoing during this pre-construction phase. Completion of the pre-construction work is anticipated for September 2004.
  • Provided all of the permits are in place, construction on phases 1A and IB is scheduled to begin in early 2005.
